Seminar Descriptions

Punks, homeless youth, artists, travelers, ravers, cyber geeks, rainbows, goths, the music scene - the scenes that really birthed post-modernism through their anti-modern, anti-corporate, and anti-Christian affinities. Over 100 years of sub-culture experience are represented in the 5 main speakers/hosts (part of the Underground Railroad senior brain trust). Along with a heart to give away experience, insights, and tears, this tent will excel in skin art, facial hair, & dreads.

It takes a "Celtic Community": Missional Community inspired by the Celtic Church Peter Wohler: Source with Brad Culver: Refuge, Ontario & Mike Troxel: JPUSA/Seeds

Authenticity, relationships and community are the common themes running throughout alternative sub-cultures. Many found these values in the sub-cultures, after not finding them in the church. The historic Celtic church embraced these values along with a raw, organic, artistic style that befriended and effectively ministered to a hostile pagan/druid culture. Peter has been part of the Northumbria Community (England), since '93 & leading Source (Minneapolis), a Missional Community, focusing on outreach & discipleship involving the arts & Urban Alternative Sub-Cultures since '95. www.SourceMn.org

Homeless Youth: Holistic Outreach & Discipleship Peter Wohler: Source

- The USA has over 300,000 Homeless Youth. Over 30% of foster care will be homeless within a year after becoming of age. They have been seduced by the sex/porn industry, gangs, and even mosques in our own church's neighborhoods. Includes: Homeless Youth Documentary, outreach (Fallout Urban Art Center), rainbow gatherings, hosting meals, discipleship, transitional housing & community homes (100+ residents since '95). Peter has worked with homeless youth since '89. He has overseen transitional/discipleship housing since '95, which he initiated by living with the residents. www.SourceMn.org

Rethinking This Thing Called Church: The Emerging Church in the Postmodern World: Brad Culver, Refuge Ontario

The church is not buildings it's people. It is something we live vs. just attend. This series will seek to challenge our perspective of Church by exploring the Transitioning Church (of which the Underground is a part) in post-modern post-Christian culture. What does it look like? Implications for developing relevant faith communities? Liquid? Solid? Form? Function? Holistic? Missional? Celtic? Liturgical? Brad & Mary, are products of the Jesus movement, missionaries in India, & have pastored an alternative faith community: Refuge, Ontario for the last 12 years. refuge@golden.net
